International hotel chain Sheraton is set to open a hotel in the host city for the 2014 Olympics, following other similar investments in the region.

International hotel chain, Sheraton, is set to open a hotel in Russia's 2014 Winter Olympic Games host city Sochi. The new hotel development, which will open in 2011, is an example of another major investment in Sochi as a result of the city being awarded the right to host Russia's first ever Winter Games. Recently Hertz opened three branches in the city, Austrian Airlines is among the carriers flying to the Black Sea resort from Europe and Radisson SAS already has two hotels in the city. Sheraton's new 200+ room hotel will play an important role in the transformation of Sochi, which is already Russia's most popular summer tourist destination welcoming more than 4m visitors a year. The area currently boasts around 400 two to five star hotels, with that number set to increase significantly up to 2014 and beyond. The IOC requires Sochi to have at least 57, 368 mid–to–top range hotels in 2014, a figure that will be matched and exceeded by the year of the Games. This will help to secure important Sochi 2014 legacy; evolving the area into a global winter sports hub and centre for international business. The Sochi Sheraton will be a top–of–the–range hotel, including five restaurants, four bars, one of which will be a roof–top bar with views of the Black Sea and its surroundings.
