The Russian Olympic Committee's (ROC) 10 year strategy was approved in early August 2010. The plan–that will take the ROC through until 2020–aims to provide Russian athletes with the best possible facilities for training and will benefit Russian performance at Sochi 2014, host of the next Winter Olympics Games.

At the meeting, a new structure for the ROC Executive Committee was also approved streamlining the body to 20 senior figures from the world of Russian sport. Alexandr Zhukov, president of ROC, said: "The Russian Olympic Committee will be the one of the most effective National Olympic Committees and will ensure that Russia remains a global sporting powerhouse. " The primary objective of the strategy is to consolidate all Russian Olympic stakeholders and create stable environment for the development of athletes capable of achieving the highest honour at the Olympic Games as part of the Russian team. "Providing the best conditions for the preparation and success of Russian sportsmen is incredibly important. Russian Olympians inspire people across the whole country and generate a feeling of national pride, " added Zhukov. Over the next two years the ROC will strengthen its positions as a reliable partner for sports federations, become an advocate for the interests of sportsmen and coaches and promote Olympic education and the ideals of the Olympic Movement.
