Dmitry Kozak, deputy prime minister of Russia, and Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 president, have participated in the 4th International Winter Arts Festival in Sochi which was organised by the renowned Russian conductor and Sochi 2014 Ambassador, Yuri Bashmet. Special events held as part of the festival were dedicated to the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad.

The dedicated Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad events included a three–day series of concerts with performances by maestro Yuri Bashmet, Russian violinist Alena Baeva, Russian composer and pianist Vasily Lobanov, musician Alexander Buzlov, as well as master classes for students and teachers from musical schools in Sochi and special concerts for people with a disability. Kozak highlighted: The city of Sochi, host of the next Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, has now hosted this great event for four consecutive years. It is highly symbolic that the Festival takes place in the same location as the Games, which will begin in Sochi in under three years time. The preparations for the Games have continued across all areas at an excellent rate. Due to the great success of events such as the International Winter Arts Festival, as well as seeing the foundations of the modern stadiums we can also experience a great sense of the electric atmosphere which will surround the city during the Games in 2014. One of the most important themes of the 4th International Winter Arts Festival is to provide young talents with the opportunity to perform with world famous artists on the very same stage. This exceptional opportunitywill help to support the young artists to raise their professional standards and to strengthen the links in the field of international cultural collaboration. The Festival will also contribute to the development of classic arts values and help to stimulate innovations in culture. Chernyshenko said: Due to the initiative of the outstanding musician and Sochi 2014 Ambassador Yuri Bashmet, the best Russian and foreign musicians have traveled Sochi not only to give wonderful performances, but also to hold master classes and meetings with the musical school teachers and students from Sochi. It is a further example of how the preparations for Games are influencing at all layers of the social, cultural and educational sphere in the city and wider region.
