Sochi 2014 and the Festival of modern time's theatre and cinema £TeksturaØ have now closed bids for participation in the £Tekstura–OlympØ theatre contest, organised within the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad.

The goal of the contest is to find and present the best modern performances in Russian theatre. From the start of the contest the organisers received more than 120 bids from more than 60 Russian regions. The finalists will be announced on 1 October, 2011. The plays were chosen on the basis that they included: the theme currency, the innovations of scenographic, light or music design; the original directing or original work from the actors. The best theatre groups from across Russia, along with the ambitious young theatre companies have all submitted their bids. Among those who will fight for the final are the Oleg Tabakovs theatre (Moscow), Kirill Serebrennikovs workshop (Moscow), Theatre. doc (Moscow), Scene–Molot theatre (Perm), Derevo theatre (St. Petersburg), Prokopievsky imeni Leninskogo Komsomola theatre and Kolada theatre (Yekaterinburg), Pskovsky academic drama theatre, Krasnoyarsky academic opera and ballet theatre and other groups. On 1 October, the jury will announce the list of the participants that have qualified for the final part of the contest. The jury will include famous director and producer Eduard Bojakov, theatre and cinema actress, Ingeborga Dapkunaite, actor and director Veniamin Smekhov, journalist and TV anchorman Alexander Lubimov, actress Alice Khazanova, art critic and curator Nicolai Palazhchenko and the editor–in–chief of the Forbes Woman magazine Irina Mikhailovskaya. The final of the Tekstura–Olymp theatre contest will take place in Sochi between 25 November and 2 December 2011 at the Zimniy theatre scene, where the best works will be chosen. The winners performances will be staged during the first Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
