Distinction for G4S leader

Sport Business News

Mark Hamilton, managing director, G4S, has recently been awarded a Distinction on completion of a Master's Degree in Leadership and Management from Bucks New University. The leadership and management qualification is one of many work–based qualifications offered by the University, and Mr Hamilton and his colleagues at G4S are involved in the development of some of the University's crowd management and security courses, which are targeted at the industry to meet their clearly–defined training needs. The master's degree that Hamilton completed includes workshops and action learning sets–this means four to six people meet regularly, assisted by a facilitator. Each participant outlines a real work–based issue or problem and following discussion, identifies points of action to resolve the problem, prior to the next meeting. Hamilton found the action learning sets very useful. He said that students from varied backgrounds generated an interesting learning environment in which relevant subject matter could be applied in the workplace. Finally, Hamilton said: "This was an immensely enjoyable and innovative course, led by professor Patrick Smith, who along with the other tutors, provided much stimulating debate and direction towards realising the opportunity presented for my own personal and professional development. "The course has given me a greater understanding of leadership and management theory, enabling me to implement productive methods of evaluation and practice, with the result of much greater added value to my role as a business leader.
