Rams to enjoy new turf

Synthetic turf brand AstroTurf has been selected to install a new sports surface at the Edward Jones Dome for the 2010 St Louis Rams American football (NFL) season. The decision was announced jointly by the St Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (CVC) and the St Louis Rams. AstroTurf's innovative Magic Carpet II Conversion System, which features its GameDay 3D Synthetic Turf System, will be in place for the Rams' season opener.

" This turf gives us a more cost effective way to convert the Edward Jones Dome from a football facility to a convention facility, " said Nick Langella, senior vice president and general manager of the America's Centre convention complex. " A convertible field is designed to be removed and stored away when not in use, which allows us the opportunity to produce conventions, trade shows and other economically important activities to take place in the Dome during football season. " GameDay Grass 3D, the same grass installed at Rams Park practice facility, is one of the most advanced synthetic turf products. It features best–in–class performance and safety benefits, and characteristics that closely mimic the look and feel of natural grass. AstroTurf's Magic Carpet II Conversion System also allows the surface to quickly and easily be converted into a floor for other events and uses. " We are pleased to partner with the CVC and AstroTurf to bring a state–of–the–art playing surface to the Edward Jones Dome, " Kevin Demoff, Rams' chief operating officer said. " Our goal in this process was to be a great civic partner in helping find a turf that met the Dome's scheduling needs while also meeting our rigorous standards for player safety and performance. Game Day 3D Grass and a strong working partnership with the CVC and AstroTurf allowed us to meet those goals. We are excited to begin playing on our new surface beginning this season. " This installation marks the second AstroTurf Stadium field in the NFL, joining the Buffalo Bills, since the re–launch of the brand several years ago. In third quarter 2009, AstroTurf debuted a new advanced synthetic practice field at Rams Park. The latest infilled systems from AstroTurf were designed and refined to meet the rigorous demands and performance characteristics required by the NFL.
