International Outdoor Event Expo (www.ioex.co.uk) arrives in London in March 2012. Sales director, Mark Gordon shares his insight into what we should expect

Please describe what your event's aims and ambitions are:International Outdoor Event Expo (IOEX), organised by UBM plc, is a trade exhibition held at Londons ExCeL, dedicated to live event production and technology. It will provide visitors with a chance to meet experts from across the industry sectors including structures, technology, facilities, sports, ride & drive, social media, security and more. The educational content will offer visitors expert insight from a range of events professionals from the worlds of sport, music and experiential brand experiences. How many years have you been holding your event? It is a very exciting time for us at the moment as this is the inaugural IOEX. We are also thrilled to be co–located alongside International Confex – the largest UK exhibition for the venues and events industry for over for 28 years (www. international–confex. com). Why did you choose London as the location for the event? We chose to hold IOEX at the award–winning ExCeL London for a variety of reasons. Firstly, 2012 is set to be a huge year for the event industry with the impending London Olympics and Queens diamond jubilee. We therefore decided that it would be apt to hold the show at ExCeL which is at the very heart of Olympic activity. The local area has been significantly regenerated and as a result it is a great opportunity for our attendees and exhibitors to visit and check out the progress made. Secondly, as we are looking to attract the biggest budget holders in the industry, many of which are based in London, we chose a convenient destination. The transport links to ExCeL are amazing and improving every day. Regardless of whether our visitors are looking to travel by train, car or air, ExCeL is easy to get to from anywhere in the country and beyond. Finally, the versatility of ExCeL London gives both us and our exhibitors the ability to design and build some spectacular features which will enhance the enjoyment and usefulness of the show for any visitor. Our challenge is to present a show that showcases creative outdoor event solutions in an indoor exhibition hall environment. Weve got some great features planned which will bring a real outdoorsy live event feel to the whole show. How many people do you expect to attend the event and what can they expect from attending? When you consider our co–location with International Confex, we expect to attract over 12, 000 event organisers from all areas of the industry. From big brands to production agencies, our audience hold some of the biggest budgets in events. Those attending IOEX can expect to be able to source high–end suppliers to the outdoor and live event industry, as well as have access to the best industry thinkers through our seminar programme. There will also be the opportunity to network with peers throughout the three days. What are the main issues that will be covered in your conference/seminar sessions? The seminar programme draws on big issues from the worlds of sporting, music and brand events, with a dedicated day for each sector. Over the course of the three days, speakers will be covering topics including creativity from the designers of some of the worlds most exciting music tours, innovations in RFID ticketing systems and cashless payment, changes and opportunities in brand sponsorship and case studies from experiential campaigns. Breaking News from IOEX:The International Outdoor Event Expo (IOEX) has launched its Innovation Incubator area at the exhibition, designed to give event organisers the chance to see quick fire pitches from the most exciting innovations to hit the event market in 2012. IOEX, which takes place at ExCeL London from the 6th – 8th March will give the latest products and services a showcase platform, with the challenge to pitch themselves in a rapid 15 minute window. The concepts must be unpatented or within 6 months of their launch date. Mark Gordon, sales director for IOEX explained: This provides an excellent opportunity to launch new products and services in front of a very receptive audience in the live events sector. This will be great for companies looking to get feedback for ideas and concepts, spreading the word about the availability of revolutionary products and getting valuable business leads. From the research that we did with focus groups, innovations were something that everyone was keen to hear about so we have developed this show feature to present them all in one place, making it time effective for organisers. We will be putting together a programme of entries to run across the three days so visitors can attend multiple sessions and see the latest innovations. Suppliers to the events industry are invited to submit their innovations in product or service at http://www. ioex. co. uk/incubatorentries by 1st February to take part.
