Culture Minister Visits London

Visiting London in early December 2012, Brazil’s culture minister Marta Suplicy announced plans to establish a permanent network of Brazilian cultural exhibition spaces in foreign capitals. The first of them is expected to open in 2013 in London itself – at the new Brazilian embassy building on Cockspur Street – with another slated for Lisbon, Portugal. Their primary purpose, Suplicy said, will be to attract foreign visitors to Brazil by showcasing Brazilian culture in all its diversity, beyond the traditional images of "football and carnival".

During her visit Suplicy also met British culture minister Maria Miller and, with Rio 2016 on the horizon, had talks with senior figures involved in London’s successful hosting of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
