Edinburgh and Glasgow Welcome Events

Diving’s elite will return to the UK in April 2013 for the FINA/Midea Diving World Series which will be held at the newly refurbished Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.

Thanks to a partnership between British Swimming, UK Sport, Event Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council, the event will make its debut in Scotland between 19-21 April 2013 and will feature the top ranked divers in the world.

The FINA/Midea Diving World Series will be the first international competition at the pool since its refurbishment. In 2014, it will be used as the venue for the diving at the Commonwealth Games.

UK Sport has provided £100,000 from its National Lottery backed Gold Event Series to support the event.

Meanwhile, Glasgow looks set to receive an economic boost of around £1.3m after being selected to host the ECU European Cheerleading Championships this year. The colourful event will take place at the city’s stunning new £113m Emirates Arena over the weekend of 29-30 June.

As one of the largest events on the global cheerleading calendar, nearly 3,000 competitors from some 34 countries across Europe will travel to Glasgow for the two-day contest. In addition, the city can expect to welcome more than 2,000 visiting spectators, comprising coaches, family and supporters.

The coup for the city is also a first for both Scotland and the UK, with the inaugural event in 2011 having been held in Prague before travelling to Amsterdam last year.
