The end of the first phase of London 2012 is now over two weeks away and we are well into the Paralympics. We all hope for a similarly successful two weeks. It was ‘business as usual’ with MEI though. In addition to numerous external events at Casa Brazil in Somerset House, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Brazilian Embassy, the British Business Agency at Lancaster House and City Hall we also hosted three afternoons in our offices during which, clients and members of our community enjoyed the opportunity to meet members of our Brazilian team. Joao Frigerio and Lucas Lacombe were both in London for the games and took some time out to brief small groups on the opportunities and challenges that face those businesses that wish to penetrate the Brazilian market.

Selex Systems Integration Ltd were represented by Francesco Norante and Brad Alexander joined us on Friday 3rd August from LCI. It was also a pleasure to meet senior directors from Spiralite Ltd, Frontier Horizons, Broughton Controls, Beltcastle-FX, Production Freight, Brabners Chaffe Street and squint/opera. Bill McPherson, one of our UK based associates joined us as did Roberto Falcao from Approach who are based in Rio de Janeiro.

We would like to thank all those that attended and in particular we extend our gratitude to Lucas and Joao for their time and expertise. We would like to draw everyone’s attention to forthcoming MEN events, information about which can be seen on our website at www.majoreventsinternational.com/events.php. Our next briefing will take place on Wednesday 19th September in Central London and will focus on the business continuity challenges facing major events in the Middle East region. Following this we are proud to announce that His Excellency The Ambassador from the United Kingdom to Brazil, Alan Charlton, will speak at our next Brazil Briefing at Canning House in Belgravia on Wednesday 3rd October.

In November MEI will be taking a stand at both Expo Estadio (see www.expoestadio.com.br/index.html) from 21-23 November and at Soccerex (see www.soccerex.com) from 24-28 November. We will be sharing these stands with those of our clients who wish to take advantage of the considerable reduced fees for taking shared space through MEI. Any company interested in receiving details of either of these shared stands should contact Piers Lawson at MEI on  This email address is being protected from spambots. This is now the second issue of our re-launched Brazil Digest and we would very much like to encourage our readership to take advantage of the volume of procurement and host city information which is held on our subscribers and members web-portal. This information is available to all subscribers (see www.majoreventsinternational.com/community) and also to all members of the MEN.
