FIFA Master Alumni and FGV to Host Seminar

The Alumni Association of the prestigious postgraduate course in sports management FIFA Master – recently prized the best course of its type in the world – and the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), Brazil’s most prominent business school, will co-host a Seminar during the FIFA World Cup in Rio which will present and discuss relevant topics in the field of sport and business.

The programme has a list of very high profile speakers, such as FIFA’s Secretary General, Jérôme Valcke; the CEO of the World Cup’s Local Organising Committee, Ricardo Trade; IOC member, Denis Oswald; the president of the Brazilian Olympic Public Authority, Gal. Fernando Azevedo e Silva; sports marketing specialist and Unesco consultant, Patrick Nally; TV Globo Sports Director, Marcelo Campos Pinto; Brazil’s Government Secretary for Football, Antonio Nascimento, among others.  Click here to see the full programme.

This will be the third Seminar co-organised by the Alumni Association (FMA) and FGV. The first one was to promote the launch of FGV’s own online course in sports management, which is run in partnership with FIFA and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), in 2012.

The format of the seminar brings together alumni from the FIFA Master course and other experts of the sports industry.

The FIFA Master alumni who will speak at the seminar are: African Football Confederation’s Secretary General, Hicham El Amrani; Maria Elisa Dominguez Rubio, Legal Counsel at FIFA; Tim Goethals, Head of Projects for the Association of Summer Olympics International Federations; Manoel Flores Jr., Operations and Competitions Manager at CBF; Pedro Trengrouse, Professor at FGV and UN Consultant for the World Cup; and Daniel Cade, Project Manager at Responsiball.

The seminar will cover the following topics:


  • The impact of the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazilian Football
  • Brazil’s next big thing: The Olympic Games
  • Sport and Education
  • Sport and CSR
  • Effects and challenges posed by football’s globalization
  • The challenges of organising a World Cup
  • The challenges to “communicate” a mega-event
  • Current legal challenges for sport


Opening addresses of the event will be given by FIFA President, Joseph S. Blatter, and Brazil’s Minister of Sports, Aldo Rebelo.
