Major Events International hosted a briefing on the 22nd of May with Consul General at the British Consulate Sao Paulo and Director of UKTI Brazil John Doddrell.

The afternoon briefing was attended by 15 companies ranging from SMEs to corporates all interested in hearing the latest on the climate for business in Brazil.

Companies in attendance included Quadratica UK, Atkins and Studio Skylab and the session began with CEO Dennis Mills setting the scene and sharing his first-hand experience of the challenges faced in Brazil. John Doddrell then gave an overview of the potential of the Brazilian market noting that Brazil’s wealth of natural resources and growing middle class mean it is likely Brazil will be the world’s fourth largest economy within ten years and therefore cannot be ignored. John was careful to address the implications of this year’s World Cup and Presidential elections that have potential to impact commercial businesses, the status of the economy and production rate. There was a lively discussion from the invited companies with issues around taxation. Sue Watson, Head of Watson Associates, a member of the Major Events Network said, “It was a great networking opportunity in which I found great advice to successfully work in Brazil”.
