Comprising representatives of the UK Government's Home Office in Security & Counter-Terrorism, the UKTI Defence & Security Organisation, leading security trade bodies and members of the UK defence and security industry, MEI's Security & Resilience Group was established in November 2013 to increase the exposure of its members' activities to the UK and international major event markets. This increased business exposure is being promulgated through a programme of Security & Resilience Briefings (SRBs) during 2014, of which three have been held to date. The Home Office and UKTI DSO are at the forefront of the UK's security industry export strategy and therefore play a key supporting role on the Committee.

The Security & Resilience Group held their third Committee Meeting at the London premises of Mott MacDonald on 3rd July.
Chaired by Dennis Mills, CEO of MEI, the Committee reviewed objectives and plans for future SRBs along with a major Export Seminar to be held later in 2015, with particular emphasis on supporting the needs of SMEs via a 'meet the buyer' format. Details of this (proposed annual) event will be discussed with the major trade associations and UKTI DSO. Focus was also made on the extensive security provisions for the Rugby World Cup to be held in the UK next year. The Home Office has set up the Security Innovation Centre which will become the focal point for incoming missions to the UK from overseas. Delegations have already been received from Brazil, Qatar and Australia, leading to increased sales opportunities for British suppliers in the security industry. MEI's growing partnerships in China and India were outlined by Mr Mills.

The date of the next Committee Meeting was agreed as 26 November 2014.
