Following on from a very successful Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this Summer, MEI were lucky to be approached by the Queensland Government to host a briefing with Minister Jann Stuckey and Mark Peters both responsible for the next Commonwealth Games taking place on the Gold Coast in 2018. The afternoon briefing, hosted at Selex ES’ London HQ, proved very popular with 60 companies in attendance. Delegates ranged from large companies such as Atkins to SMEs with niche capabilities. Amongst the speakers were Selex ES who gave a fascinating overview of their project delivering Glasgow 2014. We also heard major events case studies from Rapiscan Systems and Quadratica on the Security side. Delegates were invited to a ‘Taste of Queensland’ reception at Australia House after the briefing, hosted by Ken Smith, Agent General of the Queensland Government in the UK.

The next day on 7th August MEI hosted two roundtables with Mark Peters, one on security and one on temporary overlay. What followed were lively discussions and knowledge sharing amongst the group of 15 delegates keen to learn about the opportunities for their companies in Gold Coast 2018.

This initiative gave birth to the idea of taking a business mission of 15-20 companies to the Gold Coast in January/February 2015 to meet with key officials and potential partner companies.
