A new European committee for Private Security Services has been formed. The committee takes over responsibility for existing European security standards including Airport Security, and plans to start work on a European standard for critical infrastructure protection. Another area that was briefly discussed was security issues caused by drones, which would certainly be a consideration for event venues, with considerations such as security, filming rights and safety issues (how soon before a venue attendee is injured by an out of control drone?

Closer to home development has started on an update for the door supervision British Standard 7960 which is used by most companies supplying staff to venues with alcohol licences. A schedule is also being put together for a revision of the detection dogs British Standard 8517-2, which covers both explosives and drugs detection.

Work has been finished on the update to BS 7858 CCTV management and operation with publication due at the end of August. This includes new annexes covering data protection and the Surveillance Camera Commissioner’s Code of Practice.
