Major Events International (MEI) announces the formation of MEI Qatar

With Qatar hosting the World Athletics 2019 and Football World Cup 2022, Major Events International (MEI) is pleased to announce that as of 1 November, they will replicate the in-country support model successfully deployed in other international markets over the last 12 years.

Business Start Up Qatar is the chosen partner to complement the access to major events expertise and experience provided by the MEI community. It is a central point of contact for innovative start-ups and established businesses new to Qatar with ambitions to work in and around the State of Qatar. Business Start Up Qatar has had a presence in Doha for more than 10 years and established strong relationships with key local stakeholders from the private and public sectors. Assistance is provided throughout the business or project life cycle delivered by experts and specialists from organisations such as Solutions Four WLL and Sommer Winter Zeit (SWZ) LLC.

Commenting on the launch of MEI Qatar, Dennis Mills, Chief Executive of MEI stated “We know that we cannot deliver the range of support services needed in new markets nor the detailed understanding of the business and cultural challenges without having a local team. Qatar needs significant focus if our community of expert suppliers are going to get the level of support they need to help them succeed and we are delighted to be working with Business Start Up Qatar. Together we will grow a local network of companies to get them “Games Ready” and connect them to credible international suppliers who also seek local partnerships. In February 2019 there will be the first high profile seminar and networking event as the initiation of a structured support campaign."

Steve Mackie and Felix Katterl said “We fully appreciate that supporting companies win business in the Major Sports Markets in Qatar demands a proven track record of exposure to past Games and this is a service we could not provide without working with MEI. We will support their network of experts and experienced multi-sector suppliers managed via the MEI interface, single point of contact service. Our role will be sustaining relationships with key agencies and decision makers, providing advice and support and collaborating on networking events and seminars in Qatar. Together we make a powerful business support capability to de-risk plans and enhance success for all those interested in this important market”.
