Social media under the spotlight

Sport Business News

We all recognise that in sport today there are more opportunities to engage with fans, create commercial opportunities and create partnerships than ever before. But with these new opportunities come more threats, worries and the overturning of decades of procedure and organisational set–ups.

In these one day (London) and half day (Nottingham) events we will be taking this topic and looking at how we can overcome these obstacles. De–mystifying the legal issues of becoming involved in social media for sports teams/individuals, showcasing those who are involved in social media and revealing some of the stats on people's use of the media involved. Through speaking to teams and individuals over the last few months there are many examples of clubs wanting to get involved but not knowing how to best use it. Clubs and businesses who have strict controls and still fear what they could be unleashing–how fans will react and how they can still control their brand. And some who have jumped in with Facebook, Twitter and iPhone apps before realising why they are doing and what they want to get out of it. Here we will get to the bones of the issues involved, strip it all back and look at what Social Media really is and why the opportunities in most cases outweigh the threats.
