The giant French warship Jeanne d'Arc gave the welcome to more than 1,000 guests at the premiere of the 16th Fashion Week, held between 8 and 13 January 2010 in the port of Rio de Janeiro. The aim is to make Fashion Rio a great fashion event nationally and internationally and promote Brazil as major exporter of quality design.

Brazilian fashion is not just beach clothes and slippers, but also creativity and quality and it is able to conquer the international marketplace. Fashion in Brazil is the second largest employer in the country, with over 90, 000 jobs in Rio alone. The motto for the event was 'Rio, Olympic and Powerful', relating to the appointment of the city to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
