Blast rocks rally

Two explosions at a rally in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Sunday 13 June 2010 led to a stampede in which at least five people died and 80 were injured.

The event was organised by Christian groups who were campaigning against a proposed new constitution, with politicians and church leaders attending. A referendum in August 2010 would enable Kenyans to vote on the new constitution. Police said the cause of the relatively small explosions was unknown and there was little damage. A hospital spokesman said at least 10 of those injured were in critical condition.
