Brazil trek seeks explorers

Sport Business News

Between 3–13 February 2011 a group of explorers will journey to the north–eastern region of Brazil, to Chapada Diamantina National Park to embark on an exclusive trekking adventure that has been organised to raise funds for Sense – the UK's leading charity for deafblind children and adults.

Sense has worked with deafblind people and families for over 50 years. It offers specialist personalised services across the UK, campaigns built for a change and has built a world–wide reputation for its pioneering work. Sense helps people of all ages with a wide range of complex difficulties and support individuals with a single sensory impairment and additional disabilities. Brazil's lost world trek will help Sense continue these vital services. Chapada Diamantina National Park was opened to the public in 1985 after a century of being kept secret and off limits to the public, to prevent the smuggling of diamonds that were discovered by prospectors in the mid 1800s. Although the park has been opened for over 24 years, it still remains very remote and trekking is still very exclusive. The challenge starts with a trek to Brazil's highest waterfall, Cachoeira da Fumaca also known as 'Smoke Falls'. The trekkers will have the exclusive privilege of staying in the houses of local natives during their five day expedition of Chapada Diamantina. They will discover the beauty of the 'Lost World' as they trek over 84km to various magnificent waterfalls and exploring amazing Blue Pools. Once the explorers have seen what the remote National Park has to offer, they spend their last two days taking in the sights and sounds of Brazil's 'Capital of Happiness'–Salvador. Renowned for its countless outdoor parties, amazing beaches and fantastic atmosphere. To take part in this fantastic challenge, participants will need to pay a REDUCED registration fee of £186. 75 (down from £249. 00), and then pledge to raise a minimum sponsorship of £2, 995 for Sense. All travel, accommodation, refreshments, guides and medical support are included. Full fitness training to prepare for the challenge and fundraising support will be provided through professional event organiser, Global Adventure Challenges. Places are extremely limited.
