Reception marks anniversary

The UK Brazilian Embassy's annual 7 September reception to commemorate the anniversary of Brazil's independence was hosted by the recently–appointed Ambassador, Roberto Jaguaribe, and his wife at their Mayfair residence.

Guests at the 2010 event included leading figures from UK politics as well as government representatives from around the world, as well as many Brazilian nationals. Ambassador Jaguaribe was delighted with the turnout, despite public transport strikes across London, and overall the event was a great success. Even the changeable weather cooperated sufficiently for the guests to be able to enjoy Brazilian canapÉs and cocktails in the garden. Brazil achieved its independence on 7 September 1822, when the historic 'Cry of Ipiranga' took place and the country became a monarchy independent from Portugal. Brazil would later become a republic on 15 November 1889.
