Hotel rooms on the up

Sport Business News

Hotel industry officials in Brazil have dismissed claims that there will be a shortage of rooms in Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Olympics.

The president of the Brazilian hotel association said there is a " favorable" trend in the creation of new hotel rooms before the Games, due in part mostly to incentives from the city. Alvaro Brito Bezerra de Mello told the O Globo newspaper that 9, 000 new hotel rooms have been announced since Rio was awarded the event. A hotel shortage was one of the concerns of the International Olympic Committee before choosing Rio as the host city.
