Tender announced for urban mobility

Sport Business News

There were two major developments towards the end of October 2011 as preparations continue apace for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

Public tender documents for seven urban mobility projects in Porto Alegre were delivered to the body responsible for supervising government initiatives in the city. The projects are designed to bring about lasting improvements in traffic flow in various parts of Porto Alegre, including the city centre and southern, northern and eastern areas. The tender documents were due to be published on Monday 31 October. Meanwhile, in Belo Horizonte work has started on the multi–use complex adjoining the Mineirao. Featuring an esplanade providing access to the stadium and covered and open–air car parks, the complex also comprises a restaurant, mall and sports facilities. The first pre–manufactured parts were delivered to the site. The Mineirao will host six matches at Brazil 2014, including one of the semi–finals, as well as a semi–final at the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013. Also, the president of the Brazil 2014 Local Organising Committee, Ricardo Teixeira, made a visit to another stadium with a big role to play at the world finals, the Castelao, in Fortaleza. Six games will be staged there in all, one of them a quarter–final. The arena will also host the other Confederations Cup semi–final.
