Q&A: SPORTELRio 2012

Sport Business News

MEI talks to Amparo Di Fede, general manager of sports broadcasting market SPORTEL, about the forthcoming SPORTELRio event taking place from 12–14 March 2012.

Why did you choose Rio as the location for the event? " Brazil has made a huge leap into the centre of the world's attention. International business opportunities and the state of the economy are on the rise, making Brazil one of the most prosperous and promising nations in the world today. As well as these positive economic changes, Brazil has also managed to secure the rights to host the FIFA World Cup 2014 and the Summer Olympic Games of 2016, the first ever Olympics to be staged in Brazil. As the worlds leading business market for the sports media industry, it is only natural that SPORTEL will react to these developments and to offer the best platform to bring the leading sports media executives to Brazil, to help build the future sports media infrastructure for these exciting upcoming events. " How many people do you expect to attend the event and what can they expect from attending? " The development of SPORTELRio 2012 has already exceeded our expectations. The main objective was to offer a professional business platform and to have global sports media professionals meet with South and Central American companies, to network and generate business. The market is close to capacity, not only earlier than expected but with a wealth of attendance and interest from the South American market. Attending companies are a good mix of broadcast networks, exclusive rights holders, federations, agencies and technology providers, making SPORTELRio 2012 an interesting and versatile show for all attendees. SPORTELRio will also play host to exclusive panels produced in partnership with Sports Video Group, as well as exclusive networking events, including the Official Meet'n Greet opening cocktail. The opportunities to expand your business, prospective projects, opportunities, network and exchange of ideas at SPORTELRio 2012 is overwhelming and we are proud to be able to offer these possibilities for expansion in Rio de Janeiro for the first time. " What are the main issues that will be covered in your conference/seminar sessions? " The panels consist of two in–depth sessions, 'Brazilian Sports TV Readies for its Close–Up' focuses on current trends in sports content, broadband and mobile delivery alongside TV broadcasts, with representatives from the major Brazilian broadcasters Fox Latin American Do Brasil LTDA. , ESPN Do Brasil, Rede Globo and a FIFA executive on the panel for an International perspective. The second session, 'Using Digital Media to Engage with Fans and Commercialise Content' will assess the most effective digital strategy across all platforms, increasing fan engagement and monetising content with the conversation steered by rights owners and digital production companies. Esporte Interativo, Perform/OMNISPORT, Tennis Australia, and STATS have all been invited to share their ideas on this topic. Both panels have received much interest and should prove a very worthwhile discussion for our participants. " How can MEI readers find out more about your event? " The Official SPORTELRio website (www. sportelRio. com) contains a wealth of information on the programme of events, attending and exhibiting companies' short lists, networking opportunities, venue and accomodation, and information on how to register.
