Madrid 2016 officials have revealed the winning design for a "state–of–the–art" media village for 5,000 journalists.

Madrid 2016 officials have revealed the winning design for a " state–of–the–art" media village for 5, 000 journalists. According to a press release, the design for a 20–hectare long pentagon–shaped complex was chosen from 19 different projects in a competition run by Madrid 2016, the Madrid College of Architects, and the City Hall. Key to the design was sustainability, so that the village can be used for other business purposes after the Games are over, or as a media operations centre in the event of a major emergency. In announcing the winning design, Madrid Mayor Alberto Ruiz–Gallardon said: " we want to commit to providing the best working conditions for all journalists coming to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We also want them to experience the city and tell the story of how Madrid has become the open and innovative city that we all feel proud of" . The Mayor called Madrid's bid " the more advanced bid. Nearly all the Olympic infrastructure are already built, in construction, or ready to be developed. That is why Madrid is the safest choice" . He said the complex, which includes the Main Press Centre and International Broadcast Centre, has been designed to look like a pattern of flowers from the air.
