Hyderabad approval granted

Sport Business News

Badminton's world governing body has granted security approval for Hyderabad, India, to host the world championships in August.

The president of the Badminton Association of India told The Associated Press in mid–April 2009 that the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has endorsed the security arrangements for the 10–16 August worlds to be staged in the southern Indian city. The report was presented to the BWF's executive board during its recent meeting in Basel, Switzerland, where the Indian organisers were given a go–ahead for the world championships. Hyderabad staged an incident–free India Open badminton in March 2009 where former world and 2004 Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia and French world number four Pi Hongyan won the men's and women's titles respectively. However, security concerns of playing in India remain.
