Singapore has launched a new campaign to market itself as a destination for leading world sports events, "Sporting Singapore: Transforming the Game".

In a press release, the Singapore Sports Council, a government sports development agency said: "Singapore will continue to increase its profile as an active player in the world of sports, and already has a slew of international–class events lined up, such as the Men's Junior World Cup (Hockey) in 2009 and the World Netball Championships in 2011. "Being a major global sporting hub is where Sporting Singapore is heading, and, judging by the quality of international events already staged there, the global sporting community has already started capitalising on how Singapore has been transforming the game. "Singapore scored several sports event–hosting successes in 2008, including staging the first–ever Formula One night race, winning the rights to host the first Asian Youth Games and Youth Olympic Games, and hosting the first Southeast Asian leg of the Volvo Ocean Race.
