From London 2012 to Rio 2016

MEI’s Associate Director from North Brazil Lucas Lacombe offers his thoughts on the 2012 games and the Olympics to come.

The London 2012 Olympic Games have just barely ended and already the business world is looking at Brazil as it will host the 2014 World Cup and the Rio 2016 OG.

I was myself in London during the OG and I was amazed by the Brazilian determination to organise the greatest sport events in South America.

During my visit, I had the opportunity to meet about a dozen UK companies with the help of MEI. These firms – from a wide range of sectors – were able to obtain a brief overview of the sport-related market opportunities in Brazil and more particularly the North-East, my operating region.

At the same time, Brazil was “samba-ing” London. Casa Brasil – the Brazilian headquarters during the games based in Somerset House – organised several social and business events to promote the country and the upcoming competitions. The London Business Network and the UKTI – with the Brazil Business Summit – also had their own Brazil days to present market opportunities for UK companies in Brazil and set up a know-how transfer between the two countries, a good way to start networking.

So there it is: Brazil is the centre of the sport world for the next 4 years. Be part of it and let us assist you all the way. I cannot say better than the RIO 2016 motto: “Let’s embrace the Future!”.
